Biographical:
- Natalie Anne Merchant was born on
26 October 1963 (Scorpio),
in Jamestown, NY.
She is the 3rd of 4 children born to Anthony (Italian/Sicilian) and
Anne (Irish) Merchant, who divorced when she was quite young.
- Natalie was the lead singer of 10,000 Maniacs (1981-93) until she left
the band in August 1993 to pursue a solo career. She was on tour in
1995-96 for Tigerlily.
- Natalie toured with Lilith Fair
in the summer of 98, and then solo at the
end of 98 and throughout the
first half of 99 for
Ophelia.
- Natalie toured in the summer of 2000
for her live release, Natalie Merchant Live,
which has extensive material from Tigerlily & Ophelia,
as well as a couple excellent cover songs.
- She toured in 2001 &
2002 to promote her release of
Motherland.
- After taking a year off, touring for a while, and having a daughter,
she currently has a few upcoming concert dates
to promote her newest release, The House Carpenter's Daughter.
